It’s about trying, not the outcome

"My dad, growing up, used to encourage my brother and me at the dinner table at night. He'd say "What did you guys fail at this week?" And if we didn't have something to tell him, he would actually say "oh, that's too bad." So it trained me; I'd come home and go "Dad, I tried out for this and I was HORRIBLE" and he'd go "that's GREAT!" and high-five me. So my definition of failure then became not trying, not the outcome."
